Hey Indy… Don’t Take our Swagger Please!

| March 22, 2012 | 2 Comments

Ever since the Indianapolis Colts season started spiraling out of control in 2011, the “suck for Luck” mantra has been echoed from inside Lucas Oil all the way to St. Elmos.  It’s under everyones impression that the Colts will be taking Andrew Luck, with the 1st pick in this years draft on April 26th.  Unfortunately, today is only March 22nd, the draft is 34 days away and as you and I both know, things change, people change their minds, fans-pressure shifts, etc…

I’m afraid to say this, but part of me thinks: Luck to the Colts isn’t set in stone.  Could the Colts switch gears, throw a curveball and go with RG3 at the #1 pick?   I hope not…

I know some of you will say, screw it, it’s a win-win, if Colts take RG3 we get Luck, that would be awesome!  I understand that thinking and I agree with it… slightly.  Do I think Luck will be a great NFL QB, yes I do.  Do I think Luck could take a team to Super Bowl one day, yes I do.  At the same time, I think RG3 could do both of those as well.  So here’s where things differ in my mind:

DC needs a boost of energy like we’ve never had before.  Our franchise has been in the dumps while our fanbase has been pulling back more and more every year.  In an unprecedented move, we even removed 10K seats from our stadium.  Our team at times has played uninspired and I (along with many others) have openly admitted that the Redskins are hands-down the most boring team to watch in the NFL.  Big-plays are a thing of the past, game-changers only reside outside the parameters of your nations capital, our “leadership” is still un-signed and the Skins swagger has all but left the building.  RG3 changes that!  His energy, skill-set, personality, enthusiasm and leadership is WHAT THIS TEAM and FANBASE NEEDS.  We need more than just a good quarterback!

I compare Andrew Luck to Eli Manning.  Both great quarterbacks but at the same time, both possess a bit of goofiness.  Listen to them talk, watch how they carry themselves, theres similarities present.  Despite Eli’s success, on more than one occasion you’ve heard players beg for Eli to be more of a leader, to vocalize more.   RG3 has more of that Aaron Rodgers swagger and I like it.

RG3 brings a level of “coolness” back to DC, and we need it.

Who's won more super bowls? Eli Manning or Aaron Rodgers? Stop it. Redskins will be lucky to have either.
